Below we show the step-by-step process
used to generate an organic 3D computer model from an original 3D
sculpture (the head of Maa from the movie "Babe"):
Sculpture of Maa's head.
Before the modeler starts modeling a sculpture is made. This is used
to work out problem areas and to make sure that it's what the client wants.
Digitized lines of Maa's head.
A modeler will use the sculpture to digitize lines into
a computer representation of 3D space.
Maa's head in clean lines.
A modeler will modify the raw lines for use in
constructing a surface. The degree of the curves will depend on the
use of the model and the distance from which it will be seen.
Maa's head in polygons.
The modeler then makes surfaces using polygons.
Maa's head smooth-shaded.
During construction, the modeler will often use
smooth-shading to help find errors and areas where the resolution of
the polygon mesh is not high enough.
